It is a prenup in a way. Even with prenup you would still have to go through the process of divorce. Which has the courts bogged down

A funny idea at first then I thought of this. Why not have marriages with contracts that you can chose to renew or not after X amount of years. You chose on how long the contract marriage is. Everything is spelled out in the contracts if it is not renewed. Property obtained during marriage, savings, debt, children, custody issues, child support. That should cover most of it. Or don’t get married. It is interesting when that ring if there is one placed on a hand. It can turn into ownership instead of a partnership and you try to change that person into what you want instead of acceptance.

There’s a difference between religion and religious principles. Forget the stories and magical thinking involved in religion. Just appreciate the principles as they are solid, good and time tested. That’s how I reconcile believing in God and appreciating the principles. There’s no God or heaven or hell… just good principles.

BS article! Typical of an age group that has a very hard time with commitments! And, as mentioned at the very end of the article, two people need to sit down when things are fresh and new and have those tough discussions, not after you have made the commitment! Thing can still go wrong but if you haven’t done the minimum, what do you expect? Otherwise, save yourself the aggravation and just be partners, so that the relationship can be severed a lot easier!??

As a person who did his masters thesis on marriage, as a person who has failed twice in marraiges, as a person who entered into a prenuptial agreement the third time around, and as a person who is finally dedicated to ” for better or worse until death do we part” I hesitatingly support the idea of a temporary marriage contract. My biggest concern is what happens in the temporary contract that has dependent children within it. Temporary marriage contracts are what we already have; one just needs to get a divorce to end the contract, which is really easy in most of the world when there are no children involved. It’s especially easy if the couple shows up at the judge’s office with all the financial division of property settled. I add, the “for better or worse is so much more delicate and delightful, spiritually enhanced in the final stages of marriage as we care for our loved one as they pass from our lives, and we all inevitably become a widow or widower.

What happens to the children from this kind of marriage? I think that as best as is possible parents need to co-parent so that the children will have their best advantage. There have been numerous studies that show that children who are raised by only one parent do suffer. Also, speaking of marriage, it is religious. It has been defined in the Holy Bible and if your are a believer you also know that God has made your “soul-mate” just as he has made your soul and body. When you find your mate you know that it is more than infatuation, and you can live happily ever after. I know this because I am believer and I have been happily married for more than 20 years. We concur with Carl and Ellie from the movie “Up”.

Marriage is a man-made contract. We change way too much to be happy with each over forever. Even children typically leave after 18 years! I am in my 70’s and see no point in ever marrying again.
