I felt it could have been designed by Disney Imagineers. It’s now my favorite town in Mexico.

It does get filled with tourists.

However I am like the author and getting up there in age so I don’t have much more time to explore. I have found several pueblos that have become annual stops since I started visiting them. My favorites are Orizaba and Tepoztlan (except on weekends when it becomes a party town for Chilango’s same as Ville de Bravo). I would really like to see a publication in English of all the different Magico’s at some point.

I’ve visited a handful of pueblos mágica and have added your recommendations to my list. Also, definitely agree re setting a suitable bar for the designation – there are so many beautiful, historic towns in Mexico that there would still be a long list even with a higher standard.

On the other hand, due to over tourism and unmanaged development, some of them have long lost the magic they once possessed (I’m looking at you, Isla Mujeres and Tulum, for example). SECTUR would be well advised to enforce their eligibility criteria more strctly if they want to maintain the value of the Pueblo Magico brand and not let it devolve into a marketing gimmick.

Love our area and envious of all the Pueblo Magicos you have visited. Siempre!!
