I wish I could do something like a half-year in el bajio (probably in Querétaro), but my wife has no taste for it.

But my annual 2 week trip tells me there is something very soulful and rejuvenating about living amongst such a group of wonderful people. And in more than 10 years of traveling there, I have never once felt unsafe. I can’t say that for my visits to large US cities (Austin, Houston, Chicago, St. Louis, New Orleans, Denver, etc.).

Don’t get me wrong, I love my Texas. Pero amo a México también.

You mean in Eureka? It’s often cited as the most crime inflicted city in the most populated state of the US. I grew up there in Eureka and frequently travel to Mexico. Just returned from a trip to visit many small towns in Michoacán. I feel safe in Mexico, which i don’t always feel in my home town of Eureka.

We live in Mazatlan and don’t feel cartels either. We have no fears here. But as is the case everywhere be sensible and smart.

How can you make that observation/assumption if you haven’t been there? If you have been there, then you would know what it’s like, would you not?

We never feel the high crime and the cartel activity in the small towns like Guanajuato or San Miguel de Allende. We read about it but it doesn’t affect us in our daily lives. I feel safer here than in Canada or the US.
