Especially in light of “birthright citizenship”?

They are not interested inn good governance, only in dictatorship. I learned better in my grade school civics class.

My mother was from Colema and my wife and I, and our family live in Mexico. I have been watching the events of the last five years with great disappointment. The open borders caused mass chaos. The victims being the millions of immigrants who were basically misled in order for unethical private interests, and government to pursue a truly evil agenda. Before it can be improved, there is a tremendous gap in the process of constructively dealing with the human suffering. That is the immigration process. It is in need of serious improvements and positive changes. I believe the current administration is missing an opportunity to address the issues surrounding the current undocumented workers and have a very positive effect on the people of Mexico and the United States. By overhauling the Immigration process.
I would caution everyone to understand that private entities are taking advantage of the current crisis to further and agenda that is actually profiting from the chaos and counter to the work the current administration should be doing. Dont believe a word you hear on FOX or CNN. Also there are millions of postings on X and Tick Tock that are nothing more than attempts to generate engagements and make money for the “Content Providers”. It is frustrating for me to witness. Many of the Mexican people in the US are part of a gross manipulation of their integrity. It is a cruel system that can only be improved once the problem of the overwhelming number of crossings has been addressed. We can pray that it happens soon. We can also encourage the political process to do the right things. The instigators of the border crisis are not our friends. Its very important that we all understand that the enemy is manipulative and cruel and not always who you may think they may be.

The Braceros ( Agricultural workers)
Were in the fields and orchards.
Money was made , taxes paid etc. And the secretary of state in the 70’s ended those programs..He said
“Those jobs are for American’s”
I had friend in California that had Lettuce acreage. After a couple years, they had to sell…..NO ONE
“Americans” wanted those jobs.
The same is true in many other types of work TODAY. Send everyone back…The Country will come to a Halt. Yes, deport criminals, gangs, etc.
THINK !! USE SOME DISCRIMINATION… Long term working people…Let them have visa’s…use Legal work programs !!
Unfortunate that it doesnt require
Brains and common sense to become a politician or ICE agent.

Yes, and though the editor missed this, this hostility predated the tariffs.

The “illegal” immigration is because the Congress is playing Red and Blue politics with the situation. This is nothing new. It has been going on for decades, meanwhile the situation gets worse. This article specifically says that you are not advocating the illegal process, and neither am I. My father came completely legally in 1949 and became a citizen in 1955. That is the way that it should be done, but that alternative is not adequate any longer. Trump and the Congress need to compromise on an immigration law that allows immigrants to go and do the work in the US that American businesses cannot get anyone else to do otherwise the American economy will tank and inflation will go rampant. Senator Sinema, Senator Lankford etal had a Bill on the table just before she resigned. Trump ordered his puppets to sink it.

A lot of what you say is true but don’t forget our deadliest war (the Civil War) was fought over slavery and slavery lost. Also:
“It is estimated that between 1492 and 1650, up to 90% of the indigenous population in the Americas died due to diseases introduced by European colonizers (smallpox, measles, and influenza, etc). This represents a catastrophic loss of life, with some estimates suggesting that around 20 million people perished.” It is hard to resist with that level of devastation.

Definitions:

Xenophobia: Fear, distrust, or hatred of foreigners or strangers, or of anything that is perceived as foreign or unfamiliar.

Xenophilia: An affection for unknown/foreign people, cultures, or customs; a love of what is strange or different.

In a broader sense, while xenophobia reflects rejection or fear, xenophilia reflects curiosity, appreciation, or openness toward different cultures and peoples.

This is all that it is about. The United States was a slave holding genocidal entity from the get go. Slaughtering the indigenous native peoples to near extinction. Xenophobia has been the thread weaving it’s way through the history of the country. It was challenged in the post WW2 era and it appeared to dissipate somewhat. And then the Orange One lit the fires and fanned the flames, reminding a racist and xenophobic country of their true and pathetic identity as frightened invaders always fearful of the OTHER.
A failed colony driven to lunacy by their fear and foreboding.
A bit dark, but this optimistic, naive, xenophile is exhausted by the turn of events and the idiocy and lunacy of my country
