Comments on: US tariffs on Mexican steel and aluminum go into effect https://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/mexico-us-steel-tariffs/ Mexico's English-language news Sat, 15 Mar 2025 20:20:14 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.8.2 By: Randy https://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/mexico-us-steel-tariffs/comment-page-1/#comment-16268 Sat, 15 Mar 2025 20:20:14 +0000 https://mexiconewsdaily.com/?p=449181#comment-16268 If the tariffs against Mexico stick (I don’t believe they will),
US. purchases of affected durable goods will substantially
diminish. Let’s use the 20 % tariff the US has imposed on Chinese durable goods as an example. My company sells lots of product produced in China to major retailers in the U.S. One of them recently asked us to include the 20% tariff in our Fall 2025 pricing. If this customers cost of goods
is increased by 20 %, their retail price on our products will go up by 40%. No retailer can afford to eat that 20%. Nor can any manufacturer. It will simply be passed on to the consumer? Some of our retailers make a 50 % gross margin on our products. In the end that means their retails will go up by a whopping 50%, since none are prepared to reduce their gross profit margins. Instead, in the end, the consumer is paying that tariff should they purchase tried products, and few will. There will be non- tariffed durable goods alternatives on similar merchandise available from other exempt countries like Israel, as well as domestic produced products. Purchases on tariffed products will be will fall off a cliff if similar non-tariffed goods are available . The U.S. consumer will begin to see these crazy retail prices begin in just a few months. Few are prepared for sticker shock of this magnitude. I believe this is precisely what Trump wants. Greater consumption of goods produced by the U.S. and non- tariffed countries. I don’t believe Trump wants a trade war with Mexico. I believe all he wants is far more significant action to be taken Mexico against the cartels/fentanyl. If “several” major busts occur over the next two weeks, and Mexico drops any tariffs on U.S. goods I would expect the tariffs imposed on Mexico to go away.
I think Trump has great respect for Claudia. But the answer is not to respond tit for tat. The answer is to do what Trump has requested.,Clobber the freaking cartels. That’s not rolling over for Trump. That’s rolling over for the great people of Mexico, who deserve better. To live free from the scourge of these scumbags. .

But to want to see someone suffer is despicable and demented.
They continue to denigrate the hard work done by President Sheinbaum to address issues in Mexico more important than the efforts of trump to make Russia great again. It will be interesting to see when they realize the convicted felon and adjudicated rapist has taken the United States for a ride. And the country of Mexico is doing just fine under the leadership of President Sheinbaum.

They were counting on Trump not imposing tariffs on items covered by the USMCA. She was not expecting this to go into effect this week. The headlines stated “Hundreds of thousands of people flocked to Mexico City’s central square on Sunday to join President Claudia Sheinbaum in celebrating the United States’ decision to suspend tariffs on most Mexican goods.

Trump has no respect for other people’s lives and their country. He will try to market what is happening as a wonderful thing for the American people. He will take the USA into further debt while dismantingly the country. Make no mistake, people are protesting and screaming out loud to the US congress. Trump is making a living h*ll for US citizens. Trump has no problem taking other countries down with the USA. I applaud México’s Presidenta. She is doing a remarkable job handling the leader of all the beasts in the garden with the tools available. She did not make this mess.

That such is occurring is inescapable to, and embarrasses, me. None of this relates to the drug trafficking. I cannot wait for the midterm elections. Russia must be very happy with Agent Orange.

The steel and aluminum tariff under Trump one lasted 7 months. It was touted as a Trump win when it was implemented. The crowds cheered. Then unceremoniously it was pulled.

This was the first time he actually began to express his displeasure with the administration. I asked him where the National Automobile Dealers Association has been. Where have they been? He was silent…..this is just starting to become his new reality.

I’m not sure why someone would want to cheer hard times. Or taxing more. Or raising inflation. Or taking it to Mexico. Or impeding trade. I remember when Republicans were into liberty and capitalism. Under Trump no more. And the American First slogan cannot be applied to a policy that increases inflation and impedes capitalism. Probably the worst policy Trump has enacted. Luckily the same tariff from Trump 1 lasted 7 months. And had zero affect at bringing back jobs.

They already knew it was on the books. Initially, the event was to inform the country of what is going on and to make sure everyone was on the same page and UNITED. That was what the event was all about. And since the tariffs on everything else was paused, the government decided to have a festival afterwards. If all the tariffs are imposed the Mexican president will go ahead with her plans that she will announce during that time, in April.
