Never has the standard of living been as high across all segments of the society as it is currently. Never has Mexico appeared more independent of U.S. influence, never has the country appeared more unique among nations—reminiscent of the social democracies of Europe, but with its own character. The wealthy (and corporate entities) have seen a reduction (but not cessation) of profit creation and government sponsored infrastructure investment is at an all time high. As AMLO politely chides, Mexico ought to be the envy of its neighbors as it carries out real Populist reforms (to quote another Mexican leader) where the “heart is downward and to the Left.”

The disappearance of the young men doesn’t seem to bother Lopez Obrador. He didn’t solve the crime – that makes him complicit. His airport is a flop. Providing Cuba with a lifting hasn’t helped. Cuban prisons are still filled with patriots while the Cuban Treasury is bulging with Mexican gift pesos

You are correct Jorge. Also, AMLO did not ignore the cartels, he simply avoided the mistakes of Felipe Calderon which caused the deaths of tens of thousands of Mexicans during his six year period as president.

I always worry that the Mexico news daily will succumb to pressure from conservative donors in the United States. Reporting like this helps to reassure me. Keep it up!

There appears to be an issue with the resurgence of populist politicians. Why is that? The so called “democracy” which we hear so much about has sure not helped but a group of elites.
If those tasked with guarding the border (going both ways) would do their job without political interference things might improve.
Viva Mejico!

regretfully, Mexico is a neighbor to the largest most lucrative market that by the same token is the largest illegal supplier of weapons. THAT is the problem.

5 million people out of poverty and some major infrastructure developments. AMLO could have spent that money on arms to fight the cartels. Doesn’t work, look at what happened during Calderon. Mexico better spends its money on hugs (support to the poor) then on bullets.
