We are already seeing pushback and resentment in places that are being or have been lost to the tourism industry.

Hi Bambi,

Thanks for your diligence. We have changed the photo, which showed the nearby town of Guayabitos, a reference to the beaches of Nayarit discussed in the article. Hopefully the other images are accurate however, otherwise the people installing Mexico’s famous tourist signs may need to provide some answers.

Compostela is a town a good hour east from the coast over a very twisty windy road over a mountain from the coastal town of Las Varas. The photo shows the town of La Penita I think. You can avoid the twisty road now if you take the new highway to Guadalajara .
So my next question is are your other photos and stories correct or wrong, too?

It’s very weird to live somewhere where some neighborhoods are like ghost towns because the residents are just seasonal vacationers who don’t learn Spanish or blend in in any kind of meaningful way. Away from Lake Chapala and maybe the beach resorts, you would need to know the culture and Spanish to get along. Everyone does not speak English here.

Compostela is the ‘County” or whatever the over all area is called. The town of Compostela is no where near the beach.
