If you honestly feel this way, publish your own article and refrain from pi*sing on another’s parade. Shame.

George – what a great story of the work you and the Lion’s Club have done. What a wonderful service you all did for the community. Thank you so much for sharing.

Daniel – that’s wonderful. How kind of you and your wife to do that! The gift of education is as good as it gets.

We had a free eye clinic each Thursday for locals who otherwise couldn’t afford it.

That meant we had over 20,000 pairs of donated prescription eyeglasses. We had the equipment to examine each one to determine and catalog their prescription strengths and computer-log that info plus provide the location in the several rooms of inventory files.

Each Thursday, we members welcomed them in, logged them in, and filled out their appointment cards to carry with them through the exam.

We also performed and recorded the eye chart test and sat them down in line to see the optometrist who was volunteering his time. The doc provided the prescription, we found and got a pair of glasses in the files that matched.

The patient tried them on, and WOW! One elderly lady was so overwhelmed with the difference that she wobbled and broke into tears.

My husband and I hope to move to Merida this winter. He is a retired Pediatric Cardiologist, handicapped and 81 years old. Do you feel he could be helpful and in what capacity? What you are doing is beautiful.

I know a lot of people doing above and beyond the call of duty here in Mexico. When you help out here you can see up close and personal that it makes a difference. My wife and I sent four extremely talented young ladies from a Oaxaca family to Iteso University and it has been very gratifying to watch them graduate and immediately start making a difference. We’ve lived in Mexico for going on 17 years and we will finish out our lives here. For us, this is as good as it gets.

And I see more and more of selfless contibutions to the Lakeside Chapala communities by North American residents. Person to person good will and appreciation is the most powerful kind of diplomacy.
