Refreshing perpective! I have participated in cleansing rituals principally copal and simple offeringss a little seen precolumbian sacred site and pyramids outside of Zihuatanejo…with a local, discreet and authentic curandero, whose family there goes back dozens of generations.

I concur, and for me, it It is essential to try to experience the real deal, free and in nature. Blessed to have Adan available to me and small groups.

People seek personal transformation, and should know that traditional ceremony is not a one time purchase or spectacle. My ZihuaWRITERS group retreats include private

I ran into a group of spiritual tourists in Real de Catorce. They were on their way to take peyote with some master or other copying the Huicholes who still conduct peyote ceremonies on the outskirts of the town. The tourists were all in white and very serious. One of them guarded their van and their luggage while the others trooped off to experience their visions. I guess her vision was limited to luggage and tires. When it comes to knucklehead spirituality, Mexico is not as bad as India – – – yet.

No part of Mexico has commercialized “authentic” indigenous customs in a more exploitative way than the Cancun-Riviera Maya corridor. And ironically, it’s where the Spanish hotelier mega-brands have pulled off a breathtaking “reconquista” of any entire branch of the Mexican economy (hospitality). This marriage of a foreign commercial take-over on the backs of a supposed celebration of Mayan culture is just one of the many glaring shortcomings of a tourism model that sold out to the Spanish mega all-inclusives.
