It is equally possible that the unattributed photo is honest and real. There was already plenty of rightful passion and anger, which hardly needed “inflaming”.

See above – one of the largest property owners in Condesa is a NY based investiment firm – with about 250 properties in Condesa alone.

The regulation has begun to deal with the invasion of foreign investment. A critical mass of proper discontent has emerged – they honestly and properly see this infiltration for what it is – economic colonization.

Your post would best be aimed at unregulated capitalism. The US has spent the last 80 years working to privatize Latin America, and overthrowing social goverments. Our own FDR believed the next step for the US would be a right to housing, medical care, et al before the 2025 boyz organized to takeover democracy. Public housing has been a great success in Austria (25%), Singgapore (80%), and many others.

Even the US was successful early on – and was the largest builder of housing in 1918, building over 80 communities in 26 states – “They were thoughtfully designed neighborhoods, complete with parks, schools, shops and sewer systems. “. Add Canada to your thinking, who instituted a multi-billion dollar housing program, a renter’s bill of rights, a tenant-protection fund,

Your negative attitude may be correct insofar as private housing stock, but completely ignores the great success of publicly planned and built neighborhoods, et al. Please educate yourselves – the private sector is driven by ever larger, greedy mega-corporations who could care less.

As for the demostrations, 3 in less than a month is notable and is only the beginning. The dam is breaking and this issue is only going to grow.

Based on the number of AirBnB’s and properties owned by American firms – it would require a roller, not a brush.

You might address the fact that San Francisco based AirBnB entered CDMX with a handful of rentals not all that long ago – and today? Over 20,000! Or take note of the fact that just one New York based real estate investment firm owns 249 properties – most for rental – in Condesa alone.

Just using his photo to inflame passion?

They are Mexicans and they’ve made a lot of money.

They’re confusing that with the Spanish. Modern travelers are individuals living or traveling here, not enforcing an empire. These problems are the result of political choices. When a government fails to regulate housing, wages, or tourism in a way that protects its citizens, then foreigners become a convenient scapegoat for deeper systemic problems.
