Chetumal (capital of Quintana Roo) is probably the closest airport, roughly a half hour drive, if memory serves.

Not the cheapest but worth it for a special last night in Bacalar dinner. Food cooked on open fires, lovely setting.

That was 24 years ago. It is a magical place. The people are Mayans or use to be. Now Im sure its a mix. La Laguna de Siete Colores is absolutely beautiful. Be sure and visit the Ruins.
