You know I’ve never been there, I’m probably going to go in the next couple months but I agree with you 100%. Airport is going to wreck it! Why can’t people see this?$$$

San Miguel would not be improved by a nearby airport. It would only bring people who want another place to go for less than a week, where they can get drunk and destroy the atmosphere that has been built up over the last twenty/thirty years. One of the reasons San Miguel is a gem is that it is not simple to get to and leave.

I find it strange that you should blaming foreigners for taking over the town. Who is promoting its development ? Who is it that is selling Mexican owned land and properties? Not foreigners. The request for the airport came from the local government!

Requiring Mexican citizenship would mean a fairly major change in the rules since most foreigners (unless you have a Mexican spouse, or a few other exceptions) have to be legal residents of Mexico for 5 years to be eligible to apply for citizenship. When you pass that 5-year mark, and spend some time gathering all the paperwork and making appointments, it usually takes another year after submitting your application for the Mexican government to finish the paperwork at their end and give you the documentation to be a Mexican citizen.

You forget the influx of Mexican tourists, and the construction of new houses to serve weekend partiers from CDMX and Queretaro. But yes, too many gringos.

(airlines?) we have a beautiful new airport just sitting not being used, we had a couple of airlines come in but since they couldnt fill the seats, they discontinued. I know they need to make money but 30 days isnt long enough to get the word out and get traction. would be a nice convenience for people in Hermosillo to hop on a plane to come to the beach (Puerto Penasco) and I enjpyed the 45 min flight to Tijuana to grab a flight to Vallarta. better than a 6 hour bus ride.
I cant imagine the government working on new airports when there’s one already established, they should get it up and running and where its located will not have noise impact much its out in the desert. love to hear comments

But I start to think that
unless longer term visitors (6 months at a time and more) should be required to take out Mexican citizenship and pay some Mexican Taxes! Tourism doesn’t help sustain an economy in the downtime (summer) and since the US is kicking out as many Mexican (and other immigrants) as it can get their hands on…why not send some Americans back? Justice should be equal on both sides of the border?
I am sure most Americans would not approve of this but then the US isn’t giving any choice or in some cases and destion to the Latinos they are expelling! I find the inequality very unjustified…many Mexicans have been trying to make a better life in the US where as Americans already have a better life no matter which side of the border they are on. Only my opinion…
